Amanyara
Hotel Name: Amanyara
Number of Rooms: 38 pavilions, including 2 suites & 16 villas (ranging from 3-6 bedrooms)
Location: On the northwest tip of the island, a 20-minute drive from Providenciales airport
Surrounded by mangroves on Providenciales’ secluded Northwest Point, on the shores of an 18,000 acre nature reserve, Amanyara feels worlds away from the Caribbean. Its pavilion-style accommodations and quiet reflecting pools evoke the distant shores of Bali or Phuket, while the coved beaches and rocky shoreline are reminiscent of Greece. No matter where Amanyara transports you, you’ll find relaxation - the hotel’s wellness facilities are among the best in Turks and Caicos.
What We Loved: Though it’s just an easy non-stop flight from the east coast into Providenciales, the imported materials and Indonesian-style pavilions sparingly studded through the secluded 100-acre grounds mean this quick escape punches way above its weight. When we need major mental distance but don’t have the time to make it all the way to the eco-luxe vibes of Southeast Asia, Amanyara is our preferred port of call.
What We Didn’t Love: Late summer and early fall can bring in a few errant mosquitoes, but the diaphanous netting swirling around the teak platform beds just adds to the far-flung feel.
Right For: The multi-bedroom villas make this an ideal destination for multi-generational family getaways - there’s even a junior spa menu, for side-by-side mani pedis.
Wrong For: Since the closest off-property restaurants are a 20-minute drive away, we might steer guests seeking a sun-drenched *scene* toward St. Barth’s or Anguilla instead of Turks.
Best Time to Visit: December to March are peak season, but you’ll never feel crowded at this discreet oasis. The hotel closes up shop for a few weeks in September and October for hurricane season.
TLF Tip: Chartering a boat for a lazy day at sea is a Caribbean standby, but at Amanyara, the resident Marine Biologist can ride along, turning your afternoon on the water into a seminar on the native plants and wildlife, as well as the coral reef restoration project taking place right offshore from the hotel.
