A dual French and American citizen born and raised in Manhattan, Alexandra has relished every opportunity to engage with worlds different from her own. A nomadic soul and multi-linguist, she has spent much of her life wandering, living, and studying around the world. Upon receiving a Masters in Economics from the Paris Institute of Political Studies and the London School of Economics, she returned to New York and devoted four years to a career in Investment Banking and Real Estate. Recognizing the need for a higher degree of personalization and a more empathetic approach to trip curation, Alexandra founded The Local Foreigner in 2012 as a one-stop shop for inspiration, insider insight, and comprehensive travel planning.

A Yale graduate and Manhattan native, Barkley spent the majority of her young life traveling before turning her passion into a career. With parents in the luxury hotel business, she spent much of her youth in the Caribbean amidst the chaos of a developing hotel, procuring an acute attention to aesthetics, customer service, and hotel management. After living in Paris on two separate occasions, Barkley spent several years in investment banking before marrying her business skills and love of travel. Prior to becoming a partner at the Local Foreigner, she was the Managing Director of a high-end membership-based travel company in New York. Over the last 13 years, Barkley has circumnavigated the globe — from traversing the dunes of the Lençóis Maranhenses in Brazil to private island hopping in the Seychelles to visiting censored monasteries in Tibet. Successful but not content she bought a round-the-world ticket, and spent a year seeking her next path on a slow journey from Europe to India and Nepal, Southeast Asia to Japan, and Australia to New Zealand. Manhattan was the end of the road, and her dual loves for travel and business culminated in a new career. Marie was born and raised in Michigan to a family of travelers who spent time exploring on school breaks. Loving all things cultural immersion, food, and travel, Marie majored in International Studies and Sociology at the University of Michigan. After a year of staying still, she moved to Italy to exercise her Italian and dive into small town Italian culture. She studied at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Bra, Piedmont, where she ate her way through Italy and beyond. Her schooling culminated in an internship, where she moved to the Ligurian coast and worked in an Italian-speaking seaside restaurant as a chef and waitress. Her love for the outdoors, paired with a need for hustle and bustle, led her to college in Charlottesville at the University of Virginia, where she studied Media Studies & Global Sustainability. A native New Yorker, Camilla found her way to the travel industry by way of gemstones and jewelry. During her 14 year tenure as the Vice President of Merchandising for Tiffany & Co., Camilla traveled throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas. After her children were born, Camilla focused her travel-energies on introducing them to the world beyond New York City. In 2011, she moved the kids to Paris, where the family spent two years navigating French culture. They made the most of their shift in geography by traveling extensively throughout Europe. When Camilla returned to New York (however reluctantly), her friends were quick to seek her advice on all things travel. They appreciated her ability to uncover under-the-radar places and authentic experiences which felt special, luxurious, and personal. From there, what started as a mild obsession became the impetus for a career change. In September 2018 Camilla partnered with The Local Foreigner as an independent affiliate and launched her travel consultancy, Global Patina.

Nancy is a native of Manhattan who caught the travel bug early as the daughter of a pioneering career woman who didn’t want to leave her only child behind when she went on vacation. After graduating from Mount Holyoke College with a degree in Art History, Nancy pursued a career in publishing. She began in the fiction department of The New Yorker, extended her territory by editing destination focused lifestyle books at Clarkson Potter (French Style, Caribbean Style, American Country), then turned her attention to interiors and landscapes as the Editor in Chief of House & Garden. But it was her next position, as the Editor in Chief of Travel + Leisure for over 21 years, that she really got to see the world – from Australia and New Zealand, to the Maldives, East Africa, Brazil, and China, with countless stops along the way. An Independent Contractor, Nancy is the founder of Culturati Travel Design, where she taps into her interests in arts and culture, as well as food and style (a.k.a. shopping) to create very special trips for private clients and small groups. When not pursuing her passion for travel, Nancy divides her time between an apartment overlooking the East River in Manhattan and a house on a hill in northwestern Connecticut.

From a young age, it was instilled in Jenny to spend money on experiences rather than things, and growing up, her family spent their time traveling together. During her junior year of college, she went on a Kenyan safari and right after, studied abroad in Buenos Aires. It was then she knew she wanted to pursue a career in hospitality. After college, she spent a year teaching English in Madrid and exploring Europe. Once home, she spent five years working in sales at The Ritz-Carlton, learning the “hotel side” of the business. In 2017, the opportunity to move to NYC and work for a boutique travel agency came about. There, she found her passion helping people build their dream trips, and has been doing just that ever since.
