Independent Contractors work off commission and receive support from The Local Foreigner hosting team for everything from back office accounting to client facing marketing.

  • Yes, ICs can choose to either work under their own brand or leverage the Local Foreigner name.

  • Local Foreigner offers transparent and competitive commission splits that start at 70%, increasing based on production. Local Foreigner does not take a split on planning fees charged by their advisors.

  • A career in the travel industry is all about customer service. While many people have a profound passion for travel, only those with a dedicated work ethic and intuitive understanding of client needs can be successful in this industry. Becoming a successful Travel Advisor is not an easy feat, and often takes 6-12 months before profits are realized. This is the right career path for those with substantial destination and product knowledge as well as a robust network of contacts that can be tapped for clientele.

  • No, this job does not require previous sales experience but solid verbal and written communication skills are extremely important.

  • New ICs do not need an existing book of business in order to get started but it is important to have a network you plan on tapping for clientele. Local Foreigner does provide leads permitting they fall within the ICs' expertise and experience level.

  • The Local Foreigner provides two types of training for Independent Contractors:Onboarding must be completed by all new Local Foreigner ICs. During onboarding, new ICs will learn about our internal practices, systems, and trip planning process. Onboarding takes 3 days and occurs in our NYC office (or via remote channels, if necessary). There is no cost for onboarding.For contractors who are new to the industry, the Local Foreigner requires an additional introductory industry training and participation in an ongoing mentorship program. While onboarding is free for all ICs, the training course and mentorship program comes at an upfront cost of $5,000. General training will maximize new ICs’ productivity, knowledge, and confidence, and includes ongoing weekly mentoring sessions.
