The Hotel Jerome
Hotel Name: Hotel Jerome, Auberge Resorts Collection
Number of Rooms: 94 rooms & suites housed in a circa-1880s building listed on the National Register of Historic Places
Location: Straddling the distance between Ajax Mountain and Roaring Fork river.
Located in the heart of Aspen since this was a silver boom town, and offering a unique blend of contemporary luxury, historic heritage, and dedicated service for an elevated experience in the Rocky Mountains, Aspen’s architectural crown jewel offers the perfect retreat from which to explore the region’s abundant outdoor attractions and world-class dining and shopping. This landmark hotel is renowned in Aspen for its relaxed elegance and authentic mountain spirit (plus, it’s been visited by everyone from the U.S. Army's Tenth Mountain Division's "soldiers on skis" to Bill Murray.)
What We Loved: The Jerome is the most flat-out fun hotel in Aspen. After all, this was the place Hunter S. Thompson called his de facto office (it also hosted his memorial service.) The decor has a sense of humor coupled with a sense of style - is there any better pairing?
What We Didn’t Love: If your main priority is proximity to powder, the Jerome’s nine-minute walk to the lifts may feel a hill too far.
Right For: The Jerome is a great fit for couples or groups of friends traveling together but not looking to share space. History buffs and maximalists will love the common spaces, inspired as they are by stories from the property’s past.
Wrong For: Multi-gen families may feel more comfortable spreading out in one of the St. Regis’s residences.
Best Time to Visit: Everyone’s here to ski or eat, but we can’t get enough of the stunning fall foliage.
TLF Tip: Playwright Thornton Wilder was one of the Prohibition-era visitors who ordered infamous “Aspen Crud,” a bourbon-spiked vanilla milkshake that’s still on (updated) offer today.
