Listen up ladies… the weather forecast in Mexico City calls for a 100% Chance Of Good Hair Days (maybe it’s the altitude?). Pair your perfectly coiffed locks with some new designer duds from the city’s legion of creatives. Local designer Carla Fernandez sold me one of her jean jackets, which I didn’t take off for the rest of the weekend.

Mexico City is vast and spread out, with island-like neighborhoods that are great for exploring on foot but don’t flow one into the next. Utilize Uber to connect the dots and don’t miss Roma, Condesa and Polanco.

Pro Tip: The hard-to-score dining reservations like Pujol and Quintonil need to be confirmed at least six weeks in advance. As last-minute travelers, we instead opted for Quintonil’s protégé, Fonda Fina.

Many street food stands are attached to proprietor’s homes and run by women. Our guide’s tips for finding the best neighborhood spots: Pay attention to the level of care taken in the décor (thoughtfully garish) and go where the old folks are eating!

We stayed at the Four Seasons—which was the right choice for its central location, dreamy leafy courtyard, and excellent service.
