Brand Spotlight: Mandarin Oriental

Formally established over 60 years ago with the union of two iconic Asian properties, Mandarin Oriental is one of the most reliable and well-respected names in luxury hotels. The scope of their portfolio means that more likely than not, if you’re traveling somewhere, Mandarin Oriental is already there, and recent expansions in Santiago, Madrid, Lucerne, and other global cities show that their global presence is only growing. Their resorts in Lake Como and Bodrum are gearing up to open for the summer season, and several properties have been recently gussied up. Read on for information on some of their new openings and renovations, including three in Europe, proving that the skyline of Hong Kong and the banks of Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River were always just the beginning.

Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino

On the southwest coast of the Peloponnese, Mandarin Oriental, Costa Navarino, will celebrate its first full season this year. The property, which opened in August 2023, is tempting travelers away from the islands and onto the mainland. And with its reopening slated for April 1st, 2024, the resort’s private plunge pools, landscaped roofs, and dramatic sunsets are ready for the big time.

Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich

Switzerland is on everyone’s mind, and the grand opening of the brand’s newest hotel, Mandarin Oriental Savoy, Zurich, manages to fuse infuse the city’s oldest hotel with a contemporary sensitivity. Located on Paradeplatz, it’s a perfect perch from which to stroll the Lake, and is just around the corner from one of Zurich’s gems – the stained glass windows by Marc Chagall in Fraumünster Church.

Mandarin Oriental, Singapore

Travel geeks will know that the world’s longest flight is the non-stop between New York’s JFK and Singapore. If you can stand the 18 hour duration, the Lion City is an entry point for all of Southeast Asia. But it’s not a place to rush out of – its compressed size and dizzying technology merits at least 2 or 3 nights as you adjust to being on this side of the world. Mandarin Oriental has just completed big renovations on their 510-room property; the location and food here have always been Singaporean highlights, and now the rooms have been freshened up to match.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London

London is already blessed with an incredible Mandarin Oriental on Hyde Park, with its imposing red brick façade and liveried doormen cutting a dashing scene just down Brompton Road from Harrod’s. But now Mayfair devotees can get in on the action, as the brand will open its second property in the city this spring. Located on Hanover Square, the address will be more discreet than its bold older sibling, but still very much in the center of the action, an easy stroll to the energy of Piccadilly Circus, theaters of Covent Garden, and restaurants scene in Soho.
