The Emory
Hotel Name: The Emory
Number of Rooms: 61 suites
Location: Right in the middle of everything in Knightsbridge - you’re within walking distance of iconic landmarks such as Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey, and The Houses of Parliament. The neighborhood is also a hub for art galleries, historic sites, and fine dining, and Hyde Park is right across the street.
Housed in a modern tower overlooking the green expanse of Hyde Park, the Emory is London’s first all-suite hotel. While a sibling to legendary spots like Claridge’s and the Connaught, the Emory is like the chic, contemporary sister who is super into design - the building itself is a contemporary masterpiece, with interiors curated by top-tier designers like André Fu and Patricia Urquiola. Then, there's the Michelin-worthy restaurant by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, a private health club with a Tracy Anderson studio, and Surrenne, the exclusive spa - this is a London hotel to meet the moment.
What We Loved: Everything here is new, luxe, and done to the highest standard, and the rooms are incredibly spacious. Aman fans will be very happy here.
What We Didn’t Love: The apartment feel of the hotel means there’s no conventional lobby, and the decor may be a little contemporary for travelers coming to London looking for classic English charm, but fortunately there are few cities in the world with London’s wealth of excellent hotels for all styles of visitors.
Right For: Couples, design wonks, and worldly types returning to the city for the nth time will appreciate the very “now” feel that permeates.
Wrong For: Families who want a more relaxed atmosphere and those who want a little history and frill will be happier in the classic settings of Claridge’s or the Lanesborough.
Best Time to Visit: London is magical all year round. Over the holidays, the Emory’s location is in the thick of the festivities; in the summer, the park across the street is a welcome respite for a shady stroll.
TLF Tip: One of our favorite pubs in Londontown, the tony and charming Grenadier, is a two-minute walk through the mews from the front entrance - we’re very partial to their chicken liver parfait with griottines cherries.
