Atop Tokyo Midtown Hibiya complex, a sleek 45-story skyscraper, this luxurious retreat brings Italian flair to the world’s largest city. Blending contemporary Italian design, precise Japanese craftsmanship, and the glamorous Bulgari heritage, every corner exudes sophistication. Spacious guest rooms are adorned with floor-to-ceiling windows, offering panoramic views of the cityscape. The 20,000-square-foot spa beckons with relaxation, while the chic Il Ristorante dining room tantalizes the senses with its stylish ambiance. Each elegant space is a testament to Bulgari's iconic Italian style, thoughtfully tailored to resonate with Japanese sensibilities.

What We Loved: Raves about the service are a common denominator in both scouting and client feedback from the Bulgari - and those views are the type to book a trip for.

What We Didn’t Love: The DNA of the rooms themselves skews more Italian luxe than Japanese - but those seeking sense of place just need to look out the window at the urban sprawl below.

Right For: Fans of the brand’s sexy design in its eight other properties - though don’t automatically assume this sumptuous spot is just for couples, as the service means it’s a great fit for families as well.

Wrong For: Though décor is sleek, there are pops of color reminiscent of being in a velvet jewelry box. Travelers who picture their Tokyo hotels slate grey and smooth may prefer interiors at the Aman Tokyo.

Best Time to Visit: As with many of the world’s best cities, Tokyo always has something to recommend it - cherry blossoms (end of March) and fall foliage (mid-November) draw crowds, but a pairing with Niseko for winter skiing is also a highlight. June, July, and August do get very hot, though.

TLF Tip: When you’re ready for a break from your Japanese culinary extravaganza, we can tell you first hand that room service offers a mean spaghetti.
