Dream Trips

Dreaming is an occupational hazard around here, and we fall victim pretty easily. Here’s what’s next on our lists…though you’ll have to get back to us tomorrow to see if anything’s changed.

Botswana

I would love to visit Botswana, which is the plan for my honeymoon! I can never get enough of Safari, and the thought of being in such a gorgeous, secluded area among nature and the wild has me daydreaming of Africa.

Dream trip would definitely be Botswana. My husband and I spent a week in South Africa together back in 2018 and have been yearning to return and explore different parts of Africa ever since. Our trip grounded us and gave us so much perspective and humility. After the 18 months we’ve all had, it would be great to reset our attitude towards life, our circumstances, and hardships. And, in my opinion, there’s no better instigator of that reflection than viewing animals fight for survival every single day.

New Zealand

I would love to go back to New Zealand and do a very different trip the second time around. My last visit was 25 years ago after studying in Sydney for five months and I was on a group trip with one of my sisters. I was 21 years old and took full advantage of every excursion option.  I went sky diving over the Abel Tasman National Park. I hiked part of the Franz-Josef Glacier. This time around would be a very different trip. My goal would be to design an itinerary that balances the adventure and relaxation. I want to explore the unique luxury hotels in both the North and South Islands that Local Foreigner loves.  I would stay in Queenstown for a week and use it as a base camp to for adventurous day trips like white water rafting. In addition to adventure sports, Queenstown has all the creature comforts that I want to experience first hand, luxury hotels, spas, excellent restaurants, galleries, and unique shops.

Africa

In 2022 I’m dreaming of Africa - the only continent I’ve yet to visit. I’d start my trip getting lost in the Souks of Marrakech and returning to the world-class service and luxury of The Royal Mansour hotel. I love all things nature, especially animals and wildlife, so my next stop would be Giraffe Manor, which I have dreamed about for many years. An English manor in the middle of Africa where I can feed giraffes from my hotel room window would shoot to the top of my travel memories. My final stop would be a life-changing safari. Experiencing natural wonder at its finest and the changing colors of Africa from sunrise to sunset. Throw in a massage or two at a Singita lodge and I’d be a happy traveler!

Japan

Skiing in Japan! Freddy and I want to go for our honeymoon because skiing is out favorite thing in the world and it’s always been a bucket list trip for me. I could also eat sushi for every meal and am dying to experience all that Japan has to offer!

Southeast Asia

I think we all talk about “the last trip” with this kind of hushed, reverential tone. You know the one I’m talking about. That last hurrah at the end of 2019 or beginning of 2020 that we didn’t know was a last hurrah that we now look back on like a postcard from another lifetime? Yeah. Well my last hurrah was an epic trip to Indonesia, Thailand, and Laos, and I’ve been itching to get back to Southeast Asia ever since. Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam…all on my list! I’m going to need to start stockpiling my PTO now.

Urban Adventure

I miss big cities! I mean, I know I live in New York, but I love exploring huge foreign cities that completely envelop you in their newness. Hong Kong and Taiwan have been at the top of my wishlist for a long time, and that’s still my #1 dream trip. But I’m also feeling the pull of my favorites in western Europe and the UK – Paris, Belfast, London, Madrid, Berlin – the spots where you can while away an afternoon in a pub or café, where you can smell baking bread or rainy sidewalks, and the ebb and flow of different languages dances in the air with the clinking of glasses, creating an atmosphere so sensory it should be rendered in oils.

Everywhere

Oh god. I mean, ideally I would go to Antarctica and/or Papua New Guinea but I don’t think that’s going to happen in 2022. I would love to go hiking in Bhutan and maybe we can pull it off by putting Oscar in an Osprey baby carrier as we trek around. Otherwise, chill on the beach in the Maldives and scuba dive or go back to Rwanda and this time include Kenya. I’m not giving up on a TLF team visit to Ol Jogi. Also, my sister-in-law is going to Disney World with my twin niece and nephew and I want to go!

I'm thinking big for 2022 - no more taking travel for granted! I'm hoping to visit Tanzania for a safari, hike the Sacred Valley in Peru, and hit the beaches in Jose Ignacio, Uruguay.
